Building a Startup Company
This article is written by Clinton James, a Contributor Author at Startup Istanbul.
Eren Bali represented his and his team’s pride in leading the revolution of online education at the regional level if not than globally while he spoke at Startup Istanbul’s event.
Udemy Company is a market place for online courses based in San Francisco. The platform has around 4 million students taking up the courses and trained by more than 15,000 instructors. The company has worked for 5 years and has collected a total of $ 48 million. Eren Bali is one of the co-founders of Udemy and is the former CEO. His career portfolio includes his time as a founding engineer and Director of Engineering at SpeedDate, and as a developer at BitGravity. The first startup to be involved with was as a developer of 3D simulation of real estate for construction purposes. The next project involved entrepreneurship training using European mentors in a classroom. Bali graduated from Middle East University in Turkey with a bachelor's degree in computer science and a double degree in mathematics.
Eren confirms this by saying, starting a business can be easy and simple provided as an entrepreneur, you guide yourself with these four main methods.
One, determine the market where you want to make changes. This can be local, regional or international. Identifying the market will make it easier as you get the focus to whom you mostly want to influence, make an impact to and also give you a sense of direction. Choosing an improper market causes difficulties in trying to start a successful business.
Two, think of ideas with the aim of dominating the market. For Udemy, the idea is to create a market where everyone can teach online and learn whatever they want. But sometimes the idea changes and the company must consider adapting to the user's insight. Depending on the customer’s demand and feedback, you may need to change the product design and features several times before getting the right one for your users.
Three, turning ideas into products. This product covers many aspects, including user experience. Even with the same idea, you might need to change products one by one to find the right mechanism that attract the user's attention and really causes them to use your product. Even though you have the best product, the main goal is to create the best product from that idea by talking to customers and receiving feedback. It took some time to convince the first person to buy the product. However, once you realize that you have a product that really works, it is time to switch from one product to the store.
If you get to understand and follow all the above, this last step would come in handy for the purpose of transforming the product as soon as you know that it works, into a company. Think about and be aware that, how you get a company from nothing to a place where it is working successfully, is different from how you scale up the same startup.
