Andy Rubin leaves Google to lead startup incubator
Andy Rubin, the creator of Android and Google executive, has left the company for a startup venture.
Rubin has been working for Google since he joined the company in 2005 after his startup, Android Inc., was bought from the tech giant. He managed to develop what was just an idea back then to the world’s most used operating system.
He was formerly Senior Vice President of Mobile and Digital Content in Google until March 2013. After stepping down from the lead of the Android division, Rubin has taken the head position at the robotics department of Google, in which the company has invested a lot. Rubin started his path in robotic engineering back in 1986, as a beginning of one very impressive career path which led him to positions in Apple, Microsoft and Google.
Andy Rubin is leaving the company to launch an incubator for startups with a focus on developing hardware products. As Android was also his startup, after it became the most successful OS with billion users, the entrepreneurial community waits with excitement to see what the next startup venture of Rubin will bring to the world.
Google’s CEO, Larry Page, said in a statement to The Wall Street Journal: “I want to wish Andy all the best with what’s next. With Android he created something truly remarkable – with a billion plus happy users. Thank you.”
It is said that James Kuffner, another member of the team, will take the lead of the robotics department at Google.
