5 Tips For Women Entrepreneurs
Unfortunately some parts of the business world is male-driven. So it can be hard for a woman to make an impact in those areas like tech and venture capital. Here are some tips for women who want to be in charge of a start-up:Be the change you want to see in the world: Maybe you think that there must be some diversity in the world of start-ups. Why not be the face of that diversity yourself? Sometimes the sofa calls for a new Netflix movie and some wine but if a woman wants to be a central part of a tech conversation, she must simply show up.
Be the advocate of equal earnings: It’s bad to hear but in 2016, women still make 78 cents to every dollar a man does so in your company make sure employees are paid equally.
Words have power–use them wisely: You don’t need to “dude-up” your language in men’s world to be seen powerful. There’s no reason to promote dumb stereotypes. Women don’t need to “man up”. Women can be successful without being “like a guy”. Vulnerability is a power if you use it wisely.
Start giving: Start to share what you want (funding, advice, partnership, mentorship) through volunteering, blogging etc.. The more you are useful, the more likely you are to attract the attention of top mentors and will get what you want. Generosity is a common thread. More doors open when you stop knocking and start opening your own to others.
Trust your instincts: Facts and stats sure help you prepare the groundwork. But also it is a good idea to rely on your instincts at times and many successful entrepreneurs can vouch for this. This does not mean that you ignore the feedback you receive. But as a woman, remain open-minded to positive opinions as well as the negative ones.
